Who are we? About the Foundation

The Fondation des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique was created by Francophones in the province of BC who had a vision for the future and who wanted to provide the entire Francophonie with financial autonomy and support its long-term development.

Incorporated in 1998, the organization today depends on a board of directors responsible for the smooth running of the Foundation’s development and investment activities and strategies.

The Fondation des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique is a not-for-profit organization with charitable status under the Income Tax Act.

 

Ultimate goal of the Foundation

Become a pillar for the future of the Francophone community in British Columbia by managing funds and scholarship programs.

 

Declaration of intent of the organization (new Constitution)

  • Promote education by providing publicly available scholarships and other forms of financial assistance to academically accomplished and / or financially disadvantaged students in British Columbia who are pursuing post-secondary education and whose courses are taught in French;
  • Receiving and maintaining one or several funds and allocating all or part of the capital and income from that capital, according to the Income Tax Act (Canada);
  • Do all other things that are secondary and ancillary to the accomplishment of the purposes mentioned above, including the exercise of the powers necessary to carry out and promote the objectives of the society.

 

 

What is a foundation?

According to the website Droit-finances.net : “The foundation is the act by which one or more donors decide to allocate property, rights or resources in order to accomplish a work of general interest for the general good without seeking profits. The purpose of a foundation should not be to serve private interests. The foundation relies on the financial commitment of its creators and has no members, but only donors.

According to Community Foundations of Canada, communityfoundations.ca : « A Community Foundation is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to establish endowment funds to meet the long-term and short-term needs of the community. »
